Is There Any Connection Between Zocor And Fatty Liver?

I was on Zocor. Had a blood test after a couple of years and found that my ALT ans AST were 125 and 150. Had an ultrasound of the liver and was diagnosed with Grade 2 fatty liver. Stopped Zocor. ALT and AST went to 24 and 31. Had another ultrasound 9 months later. Still have fatty liver grade 2. Any connection here between Zocor and fatty liver? any suggestions?

Hi.
Thank you for posting your query at HCM.

Zocor may have caused the deranged liver enzymes but NOT the fatty liver.

advise:
get following blood test:
1. Viral serology - anti HAV, HBsAg (if not vaccinated against HBV), anti HCV
2. "lipid profile"

You may visit hepatologist. Get the blood tests done asap.

further advice:
- abstinence from "Alcohol"
- LOW fat diet should be followed, AVOID junk food and beverages
- decreased oil consumption (oily food)
- NO red meat
- green vegetables should be ingested daily
- use lemon juice (lemonade) once in a day
- reduce weight if overweight/obese

-"recheck liver enzymes after 6 to 8 weeks" and/or ultrasound.
