Is There Any Harm In Long Term Of Use Of Actilax For Stool Softening Due To Anterior Anus?
my son was born with a partially closed anus/anterior anus. he had surgery at 9months old to open up the anus, however, he still needs help to poo. The paediatrician recommended actilax be used daily to keep the poo soft.he has 10ml actilax daily. I am worried about the long term use of using lactulose/actilax.he eats well = he eats lots of raw vegetables and fruit. he eats prunes drinks lots of water and prune juice. What will actilax do to his blood sugar levels?
thank you for asking! well actilax (lactulose ) is recommended medicine for these isues and they have some adverse effects but they can be managed with monitoring. electrolytes and potassium levels are top of the list. So electrolyte management, hydration assessment and avoidance of concomitant laxative is what your kid needs the most. Now glucose levels. so lactulose has galactose in it. It is not to be used if there is galactosemia( a deranged galactose metabolism) or to be used cautiously in Diabetics. rest assured galactose wont harm it, keep the carbohydrates intake checked and prefer fructoses which you will get from fruits and vegetables etc. Use a balanced diet from a dietitian, Monitor other medicines as their absorption is affected by lactulose.
