Is There Any Side Effects For Birth Control Pills?
i have recently started taking the birth control pill cilest / ortho tri cyclen, and noticed i am getting considerably more clogged pores on either side of chin and cheeks. How long will it take for the pill to start working on acne and what can i do to get rid of these clogged pores?
The best birth control pill for acne is a combination pill - one that contains both estrogen and progestin like Ortho Tri-Cyclen which is FDA approved for this purpose. But sometimes there is a flare before the suppression occurs, which can temporarily make acne worse before it gets better. Sometimes the initial flare ups occur because some pills' progestin can have a pseudo-testosterone effect, which can cause a surge in breakouts. Though acne will typically clear by 6 weeks or less, it can sometimes take up to 3 months for your system to get used to the new hormonal changes and your skin to clear again. Taking antibiotics like tetracycline can reduce bacteria and clogged pores. Isotretinoin also can be applied in this regards.
Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
