Is There Any Side Effects Of Taking R Cinex During Pregnancy?
Hello Doctor, Can u tell me what are the side effects of taking R cinex in pregnancy? I am under treatment of Tubercular Meningitis since last 4 months. Pregnancy is for 6 weeks. I was hospitalized for treatment of Tubercular meningitis for 30 days in Nov 2010. Please tell me whether i can take R cinex while in pregnancy? Will it be safe for baby? Surekha, Nerul Mumbai
Dear Surekha, Hi! I appreciate your concern for the safety of R-Cinex during pregnancy.
The prescribed medicine for tuberculous meningitis R-Cinex contains Isoniazid and Rifampicin. Both of which are included in the C category of pregnancy drugs. This category includes drugs which can have side effects, but not always do.
Since you have been diagnosed to have TB meningits and this is a risk versus benefit scenario, then it is best to continue with these medications.
There is NO CONTRAINDICATION of these drugs during pregnancy. Do not forget to take Pyridoxine tablets, Iron & Folic acid tablets along with these drugs. Get regular ultrasound scan done at 12 weeks and 20 weeks to check for any abnormalities. If everything is normal, you can go ahead and deliver a healthy baby.
Hope to have answered your query.
