Is There Any Special Diet To Follow For Hypothyroidism?
Hi, I have hashimotos hypothyroidism. I was diagnosed at 14. I'm 28 now. I have had some symptoms such as lines in nails, hair thinning and angiokeratoma. My father has the same disease. Is there a special diet I should stick to. I feel like my endochronologist doesn't tell me much.
Hello, Thank you for asking on HCM! I can understand your query. First let me explain you that not every symptom that you report is caused by hypothyroidism. Hashimoto thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease that is caused by the production of some antibodies that destroy the thyroid gland. When more than 50% of the gland is destroyed, it can not produce the normal quantity of the hormones. At this point the hormone should be taken orally. Until now there is no medication to lower the level of the antibodies, no diet is found to be efficient. All we can do is to substitute the hormone that can not be produced. If you are taking the right dose and the hormonal level is within the normal ranges, you should not have signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism. Hope you have the information required.
