Is There Any Specific Diet Plan To Be Followed During Chemotherapy?

My husband 59 years old . Almost 4 weeks after hemicolectomy . Soon to start chemo. Lost 10kg in a month. I heard 20 pistachio nuts before chemo - or 20 raw pistachio nuts a dat gave strength. And lessened side affects. Is that true? What about macrobiotic diet?

Hello. I have gone through your question. Yes you can give pistachio nuts as they are a good source of vitamins and unsaturated fats but it is rich in fibre content as well so avoid giving too much of these nuts as they can give a feeling of fullness to the patient. You can give:-

1. Protein Foods like beans, lentils and nuts, lean animal protein like chicken, turkey and protein foods high in omega 3 fatty acids such as fatty fish (salmon and tuna), eggs.

2.Low Fat Dairy and Dairy Alternatives (cow, soy, almond, rice etc.) milk, cheese.

During chemotherapy avoid sugar sweetened beverages and keep him hydrated. Thanks and Regards.
