Is There Any Treatment/reversal For Melanosis Coli?
I just had a colonoscopy and the test uncovered melanosis coli. I had previously been taking colon cleansers so figure that s the cause.....is there a treatment that reverses the damaged cells and pigment coloration?
hi welcome to HCM.stops using anthranoid laxatives, the changes associated with melanosis coli lessen over time and may disappear.dont worry about the disease.stop using laxatives
Hello and welcome to healthcare forum.
Melanosis coli is a disorder of pigmentation of the wall of the colon, often identified at the time of colonoscopy. It is benign, and may have no significant correlation with any disease. The name melanosis coli is a misnomer; the brown pigment is actually lipofuscin in macrophages, not melanin as the name implies.
The condition is unrelated to true melanoses, such as Peutz-Jeghers syndrome and smoker's melanosis, which are pre malignant conditions.
So,you should not worry about it. And answer of your question is that there is no treatment or reversal of the condition.
