Hi, I have read your question and understood your concern. Like all medications, adherence is very important in order to obtain the full benefits of treatment. In the case of
Althea, a combined
contraceptive pill, adherence prevents unwanted
pregnancy.
Missing one pill increases the risk of treatment failure, that is, the risk of getting pregnant. Missing multiple pills in a row further increases this risk significantly, even if you later took the remaining pills.
Given the multiple pills missed and your missed menses, a pregnancy is possible but not certain. A pregnancy test done after about 11-14 days of an unprotected sexual encounter, using commercial
pregnancy tests, will clarify this.
To avoid this kind of situation next time, be sure to take your pills regularly, daily, and use a back-up method (condom for example) if you miss two or more successive pills. Check your product insert for details on how to manage missed pills.
I hope this helps you. Write back to me if you have further concerns and I will ne glad to help.
