Is There Interaction Between Ashwagandha, Lithium And Trazodone?

I tried adhwaganda 5 days ago 2 pills 500 mg each because I thought it would lower libido but it did not. Instead it made me a little angry or down then usual and may have interacted with what I am on, lithium and trazodone. Would interact and how long does it take to get out of my system? What can I take that will lower my libido and not interact?

Hello,

Ashwagandha is used to treat & improve libido. It helps to raise testosterone levels. It did not work because you took the medicine you shouldn't have taken. You have not mentioned why you want to lower your libido. You should always take lithium & trazodone under a treating doctor to avoid side effects, toxicity, long term complications (affecting lungs, kidney, clotting factors, eye etc). You are suggested to visit a GP & a sexologist. You need to be clinically examined, treated & also need counselling.

Lupron (leuprolide) is used to treat prostrate but reduces the amount of testosterone production & may help to lower the libido but it has serious side effects like depression, heart disease, brain tumor, bone pain, etc. Never take medicines on your own, most of the medicine interact with alcohol. Do not take alcohol while taking medications. For withdrawal symptoms & interactions stay connected with a GP.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
