Is Thickening Of Endometrium A Symptom Of Cancer?

I had a transvaginal sonogram showing thickening of the endometrium. Many fibroids present also. I had what appeared to be a 2-3 day period a week prior after no periods for 14 months. I am 54. My doc will be doing a hysteroscopy in a week. Does thickened endometrium post-meno always mean cancer??

Hi,

Thickening of the endometrium can be a symptom of endometrial cancer, but it can also be caused by other conditions such as hormonal imbalances, polyps, or fibroids. It's important to speak with a healthcare professional to determine the underlying cause of the thickening and receive appropriate treatment.

In postmenopausal women, any thickening of the endometrium should be evaluated to rule out the possibility of endometrial cancer. However, it's important to note that not all cases of thickened endometrium in postmenopausal women are cancerous.

A hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows a healthcare professional to examine the inside of the uterus and may be used to help diagnose the underlying cause of the thickening. Your doctor may also recommend a biopsy to help determine if cancer is present.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
