Is This Dosage Of Naproxen Advisable For CKD?

I have Stage 3 CKD (kidney stones killed one kidney, damaged the other), low blood pressure, no sugar problems (normal glucose). Naproxen is the only OTC pain/inflammation med that works well for me. Should I worry about damaging my kidneys taking 110 mg (1/2 tabs) a couple times a day, but not every day? I watch my diet and have maintained by GFR for almost 6 years. Thank you

I read your message and understood your medical issue.

I am happy to read that you are doing great despite all the health troubles you have.

The first thing to do is to keep your blood pressure in normal ranges. Blood pressure becomes dangerous for the kidneys when it is high.

You have low blood pressure and this can affect the kidney too because a lower blood pressure leads to reduced GFR. If GFR is satisfactory you do not need to work for elevating the blood pressure.

The problem with some OTC pain killers like ibuprofen, naproxen and higher doses of aspirin is that when they are used for long periods of time and/or in heavy doses they may damage the kidney tissue as they cause chronic interstitial nephritis which is a type of chronic kidney disease.


The dosage and the frequency you take naproxen is not dangerous but my opinion is to try other OTC pain killers and find another one that may work for you.
