Is This Dosage Of Novolog Be Safe For Brittle Diabetic?

Hi. I am 88. Last October I had a very bad fall. I have always been somewhat of a brittle diabetic; now I am very brittle. The dc is now trying the 70/30 novalog solution of 53 units in the am, a slider at noon, and 26 units in the pm. My concern is the amount in the am. Why is it not in two dosages-am and noon? Also my stomach is beginning to hurt and I feel weak again. Is this indicating a problem with the dosage?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, the dosing is based on the fact that, it is given twice daily, because it has combination of short acting and intermediate acting insulin and affects wear off after 12 hours.

If abdominal pain, dizziness etc is being experienced, you should get serum electrolytes and renal function tests as well as serum ketones to rule any metabolic complication of high or uncontrolled sugar levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
