Is This Prescribed Dosage Of Seroquel Right To Treat Schizophrenia?

My brother was on clozeril for yrs for scezofrenia, he need to stop the med because his wbc was to low. Anyway , his dr put him on serequel, 200mgs in the morning, and 500mgs at night. He has been anxious abit, and I think he should be increased another 100 mgs in the morning. I think the most you can take of the serequel is 800. But, I think he needs it, cause he gets aggitated and nervous too, maybe Haldol too???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Seroquel contains quetiapine that belongs to the group of antipsychotic medications known as second generation antipsychotics or atypical antipsychotics is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression etc. Maximum 800 mg/day in two divided doses can be used.

If someone notices some signs like anxiety, nervousness, agitation during taking this medication or feels that his or her current dose of Seroquel is not enough to control the symptoms of schizophrenia, then he or she should inform the prescribing doctor promptly for medical help.

The prescribing doctor may increase the dose of Seroquel or add another medication along with this medication. Without the prescribing doctor's permission, it isn't recommended to increase its dose or stop taking this medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
