Is Throbbing Pain Post Cutting Index And Ring Fingers A Cause For Concern?
Hi, I cut my index finger & ring finger with a rotary sewing tool today. The very tip of the index finger was cut off & the other finger was sliced about 1 cm from the tip, along the side & through the fingernail. The bleeding stopped after about 30 mins of icing & direct pressure. It s just throbbing quite a bit now. Should I be worried about the throbbing?
Fingertip injuries are more painful, since the tips of the fingers are rich in nerve supply and sensitive. The injury may be of three kinds 1. involving skin and soft tissue, 2. involving phalangeal bones and 3. involving nail and nail bed.
Skin and soft tissue injury heals by itself. Wound should be maintained clean and sterile. Bone involvement need surgery to correct the defect. Sometime, the injuries may large enough that may need skin graft for better healing. Keep the hand higher to prevent swelling which provoke pain.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
