Is Thyroid Gland Removal Necessary Based On This Ultrasound Report?

Hi, I just had an ultrasound on my thyroid and it sais: Left lobe measures 5.7x2.7x1.8cm, .The isthmus measures 3mm in thickness. Should I have a biopsy? My hormones level nr are good, feeling good but my doctor was talking about taking my whole tyroid out which made me very upset. Never had a surgery before and I m 39 women, thanks

Dear thanks for the question.

I share your concerns as you are worried about probable surgery you might have to under go. But let me make it clear that based on ultrasound report doctor is not going to remove your thyroid. Cell study or biopsy study is required to decide about exact disease which may require thyroid removal.

Doctors might have just discuss about it but final decision can be taken on the basis of more examination only.

You can request your doctor about further investigation before surgery.
