Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Too Much Iron In The Blood A Cause For Concern?
My daughter says she has too much iron in her blood. She doesn t seem as concerned as I am. She could give blood which would reduce the amount of iron but she can t because she went to Mexico last Fall and they were concerned of the Vika virus. Any thoughts?
The symptoms of your daughter seem to be related to hemochromatosis. Hemochromatosis causes the body to absorb too much iron from the food you eat. Excess iron is stored in your organs, especially the liver, heart and pancreas. I suggest that you follow up with your doctor for specific evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
