Is Travelling By Car Advisable During The First Trimester Of Pregnancy?
Hi, My wife is in the 6th week of pregnancy. We planned a trip to nearby hill station but now I am having doubts whether it is a risky idea since I think miscarriages are common in first 3 months. Please advise if it is suitable to travel - 4 to 5 hours by car. Thanks Sid
As such there is no contraindication of travelling on a smooth road in first month of pregnancy, but travelling on rough road might be deleterious and may cause abortion. Miscarriage can happen in any trimester if proper precautions are not taken. Advice 1. You can travel with your wife in a car if road is smooth 2. Avoid travelling on rough road 3. Drive car slowly 4. Do not drink and drive 5. Ask her to take proper rest – at least 8 hours night sleep and 2 hours in day 6. Take vegetables, fruits, pulses and eggs 7. Regularly visit your obstetrician 8. Take iron and folic acid tablet regularly in consultation with your obstetrician 9. Avoid smoking and alcohol I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
