Is Treatment Required For Possible Infection Due To Exposure To Racoon S Saliva?
I rescued two newborn racoons and fed them for 24 hrs. I was in close contact with their saliva and now I am worried that they could have been rabies carriers. Should I be treated? I have no definitive reason to worry about rabies other than I know racoons are a common carrier.
Hi, Gone through your query and understood your concerns.
Just feeding them and getting contact with saliva mostly doesn't effect. If they are carriers and their saliva comes in contact with any of your wounds and mucous membranes only, then only a chance. Just keep watching the racoons and if they are normal after 10 days. then everything is fine. you need not worry. But if they die after in 10- 15 days, any features of rabies, Then you need to worry of it.
Hope this guides you. Thank you.
