Is Type 1 Diabetes Hereditary?

I developed type 1 diabetes in 2000 at the age of 57. I have no other diabetics in my family. My paternal grandfather came from Cartagena, Murcia, and I also had relatives in Croatia. Could there be any connection between this parentage/hereditary and my diabetes?

Hi Sir, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Diabetes in parents and grandparents, near by blood relatives(Parentage/ heriditary) is one of the most possible risk factor. So that could be one the chance.
But this doesn't mean that is the sole and reason for it. There could be any other reason for diabetes in you.

Hope this guides you.
Regards.
