Is Uric Acid Level Of 5.3 A Cause For Concern?

I am currently experiencing numbness & tingling in my hands and feet, my Uric acid level was 5.3, Dr. Feels this could be pseudo gout because of the presence of crystals. Frankly this medicine scares me after reading side effects. Dosage is .6 mg twice daily. Send rate is normal, but feet and heels ankles are killing me. What are your thoughts.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi I have read your question and understand your concern.
Normal levels of uric acid are about 3.5 to 7.2. So 5.3 is well in normal range. But a normal uric acid level does not signifies that you won't have gout and having gout does not mean that your uric acid levels must be high. So it is mainly the symptoms i-e the joint pain and swelling, hotness and redness that are important especially in the big toe.
In my patients for numbness and tingling I would investigate for calcium levels and diabetes.
I hope this might help you. If you have any query feel free to ask.
Thank You
Dr. Taimur
