Is Urine Test Showing 18-20 WBC/HPF With Positive Leucocyte Esterase A Cause For Concern?

thanks! I had a urine test with 18-20 WBC/HPF and Positive Leucocyte Esterase (last week it was 20-40 WBC) - I have no specific symptoms and never had a UTI before. I am 69 years old. I had 10 x Ceftum 500 mg, but rather because of viral fever , cough and fever, which is now better. (I live in India.) Should I go to a doctor because of the urine test result?

Dear welcome to hcm and thanks for choosing us.

18 to 20 wbc in urine is really a cause of concerns. But since you have viral fever and already on cephalosporin group of antibiotics you need not rush to the doctor. Morever you have seen improvement in urine report in a week time. So you can wait for one more week and do a urine test again. If there's further improvement no need to worry and a doctor's visit is not needed urgently.

However if you get burning micturition , pain in flanks or have a history of kidney disease like stones, visit your doctor.

I hope my reply will benefit you. Please write to hcm or me for follow up queries. I wish you good health. Kindly write a feedback. Thanks. Regards
