Is Using Povidone-Iodine Safe To Wash Hair And Face As An Antiseptic Before Surgery?

I am going to be having surgery which requires me to wash my hair, neck and face with iodine the evening before and the morning of surgery. My hairdresser says to use colorless iodine so it won t mess with my hair color. Do you think that is ok? The iodine that the surgeon wrote the script (over the counter) for is Povidone-Iodine 10%

Yes using Povidone-Iodine is safe to wash hair and face as an antiseptic before surgery. In-fact providine iodine is best antiseptic solution to be used on skin. therefore it is used before surgery as antiseptic solution, to kill the micro-organism present on skin which can act as a source of infection.
Normally this solution is dark brownish in colour. You should not worry providine iodine would not cause any damage to your hair & this is easily washable to remove the colour.
