Is Using Heat Pack For Swollen Calf Post A Fracture A Good Remedy?

Will a heat pack benefit my 84 yr old husband circulation to his calf which tends to swell a little when he is on his feet too long he has just gotten over a fractured ankle requiring open reduction with surgical repair with 4 screws. His son came and put a heat wrap on it . and I am of the feeling it is not a good idea. Thankyou

Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns. It will be OK to use heat or even ice to help the swelling. I don't think either is a problem for healing after a fracture. I usually recommend my patients to use what ever feels best for you. It is not essential she do either treatment
