Is Venlafaxine Good Replacement For Cymbalta?

cymbalta is extremely expensive. it has been suggested by my health insurance to try venfasaxine. cymbalta is going grneric soon, so will this work until cmbalta is less expensive? been on cymbalta for several years with help of samples from dr. and discounts can no longer get.

Yes venlafaxine could be a good alternative as both the venlafaxine and cymbalta have same mechanism of action and both belong to same group.

But at the same time it does not confer guarantee that venlafaxine will work for you. As it is not necessary for each drug of same class to work for you.

The rule of thumb is continue the same medication that is working for you.

I understand your financial concern but I like to remind you that if you relapse (have symptoms again) while changing to venlafaxine that cost will be much higher fro you and your family members.

You are right that generic version approved in Dec 2013 and it may hit the market very soon. By that time it is better to wait rather than risking your health.
