Is Venous Doppler Ultrasound Necessary To Detect Reason For Water Retention?

I have been having swollen feet all week. I went to the doctor today and he said it was water retention but didn t know the reason why. So he did some blood work and told me to make an appointment for a venous doppler ultrasound. Is it necessary to have the ultrasound done, can t he just get results from the blood test?

welcome to Health care magic.
1.Your doctor may want to rule out the presence of DVT deep vein thrombosis. ( if you have sever pain the the limbs or to evaluate the swelling.
2.You are telling your feet swollen - may be your doctor would like to know if there are any varicosity ( dilated and torturous vein)
3.Your blood test might have shown the possibilities of thrombus.
4.He can get the result, but doppler is a live investigation which can see the flow / obstruction, on a live.
5.There are several reasons to ask for a doppler scan.
Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
