Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am 44 yr old lady and have a neurogenic bladder. I have a long term indwelling catheter. I also have vesicoureteric reflux. Is this serious? Yesterday I had an ultrasound showed fluid in left kidney? What does that mean and dilation? Is all this serious? I now have a UTI and have had a dull ache in the left flank area for some time. On Tuesday I am having Botox injections into the bladder for the second time, 200ml, cos first lot didn t work. What is the likelihood this will work the second time?Look forward to hearing from you
It is understandable to be concerned regarding the changes in the urinary tract.
Vesicoureteric reflux means that the urine is going backwards from the bladder up to the ureter, possibly back to the kidneys. This increases the risk of infections occurring.
Repeated infections can cause changes in the kidneys including dilation (enlargement). In some cases, scarring can also occur.
Your doctors may also suggest a prolonged course of antibiotics to reduce the chance of recurrent infections.
I hope this helps
