Is Vomiting A Side Effect Of Plavix?

Hi! My mother was recently prescribed to take plavix after getting two stents in her right coronary artery and posterior descending artery, this past friday. However, she had stomach ulcers and was prescribed medicine for them a few months ago, and stopped taking it because it made her so sick. Should she be taking plavix? Or what?

Hi,

Plavix contains clopidogrel which is an anti-platelet drug belongs to the class of medications known as P2Y12 inhibitors is used to prevent blood clots. Other drugs like Ticagrelor, Prasugrel, Ticlopidine etc., are similar to Plavix. Plavix is used for preventing strokes, heart attacks and death in individuals who have had a previous stroke, unstable angina, heart attack or have peripheral arterial disease (PAD).

Nausea and vomiting one of the commonest side effects of Plavix. Other side effects are diarrhea, rash, itching, abdominal pain, headache, chest pain, muscle aches, dizziness, severe bleeding, pancreatitis, allergic reactions, stomach ulcer etc. Don't stop taking this medication abruptly. Before stopping this medication, consult the prescribing physician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
