my grandmother passed away in october. i found her face down on the floor. she had vomited when i had found her. when she fell she struck her head and had a gash however the EMT said she was dead before she hit the floor because there was no bleeding, only the blood from the impact. my question is then did the vomit occur after she had died and if so how is that possible

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vidya KR's Response
Hi,
yes possible. After death the cardiac sphincter dilates so the food particles can move towards dependent area ie from her mouth. Face down on floor.
I hope this information helps you. Regards
