Is Walking Harmful After A Total Knee Replacement Surgery?

I had a total knee replacement two years ago. Whilst the knee still grumbles I am walking well, roughly 10000 steps a day. My question is: will this walking wear out the knee replacement quicker? Another question is: does it harm the knee if I wear high heels on occasion? I am 66.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Walking doesn't cause any harm post knee replacement surgery. But you have to avoid strenuous activities. High heels are not recommended as it causes stress on your knees and there is a potential risk of fall and another trauma.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
