I keep gaining weight but I don t over eat very often. I suspect I m getting close to being diabetic.Could I have diabetes? If I don t have the proper medication (Insulin) would that keep me from loosing weight?... and keep gaining weight? 5 8 now 280lb. Had heart attach 2 years ago playing racquetball (been playing for 6 years 2 times per week), died, revived, had a triple bypass 2 years ago. While recovering I lost much weight with little activity... down to 230. Again Play racquetball 2 times a week... have now for 8 years... it s getting harder and harder.
Weight gain can occur due to sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy food and also due to certain diseases or medications.Any new medications you have started recently should be noted.
Kindly check your blood sugar levels both fasting as well as post prandial which is to be taken 2 hours after food.Lipid profile and cardiac status should also be checked.
Hypertension, fluid retention in the body or edema should be ruled out which can also contribute to weight gain.Kidney function should be assessed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards Dr.Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
