Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Weight Loss After DS Switch Weight Loss Surgery A Concern?
Hello I am a 50 yr old femail with some serious issues since having DS Swith weight loss surgery. I am extremely weak and tired always freezing cold feel like Im constantly dizzy or in a fog and no energy to climb stairs etc. Had surgery in 2011 and weight loss had subsided after approx first 18 months. However in the last year w/o trying I ve lost 20 pounds. Should I be alarmed or does this sound normal for soemone w/ weight loss surgery. In addition, my esophogus constantly feels raw and eating is very uncomforatable I also sometimes throw up blood.
As the weight loss restarted after a long period of constancy and without intention, I would recommend you to get a general checkup with your doctor. Because, this needs an evaluation to look for any underlying cause. Given the history of throwing up of blood and esophageal discomfort on eating, after routine blood workup, you may be asked for an endoscopy to rule out any neoplasm there. Depression also can cause weight loss(as there will be less interest in food) and feeling of tiredness but this cannot explain bloody vomitus and esophageal discomfort.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
