Is Withholding Of Bowel Movement Related To Autism?
Is my Asperger's/High Functioning Autistic son's Bowel withholding related to his Autism. He has withheld his bowels since 4 and we started seeing emotional issues at 4. He was not diagnosed with Asperger's until recently at 7. He has always stated that he cannot feel when he has to go poopie and he has always tried to push it out, but it only comes out at the very last moment. He also has anxiety over wiping and still I have to wipe him.
Hi, Sorry to hear your son is living a hard lifestyle, and it reflecting on you.
To answer your question, yes, withholding may be related Autism. Whatsoever, the concern now is letting him poop, rather analyse what causes it. Cerain things you can do is, try diet that helps with natural passage, way past beyond his feel to withhold - like pinch of ginger in your foods, sweets like halwa rather than chocolates, more of milk/cheese based food, cinnamon in the milk drink you give. They can help him have a good of letting go.
I went through your details. There are many habit making behaviour which children acquire. Asperger child is also not different. You must also address constipation problems which could be due to medicines prescribed and present weather conditions and other conditions like dehydration. Do consult the doctor.
