Itching In Neck. Blood Test Showed Thyroid Problems. Thyroid Now Under Control, Still Itching Persists. Any Ideas?
Last year (approx at the same time of year) my neck began itching (mostly at night and early morning) ....and I lost much of my eyebrows, as well as had some shaking of my hands. It began to subside by March but took a blood test to see if my thyroid was an issue. It came back normal. Then the itching subsided but has begun again. ?? Any clues what this could be a symptom of?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Itching can occur in two conditions. One of them is skin disorder, this could be infection by parasite or fungus; second one being elevated bilirubin levels. High bilirubin level causes generalized pruritis (itching). However, there is associated loos of hair of your eye-brows so it is likely that there is some primary skin problem. Liver function tests especially bilirubin - direct and indirect can be done to rule out raised bilirubin to be the cause of pruritis. You need to consult a dermatologist for examination, relevant investigations and thus management.
