Itching In Vagina, Swollen Labia Minors. Not Sexually Active. Suggestions?
I noticed some itching in my vaginal region, and after self-examination, I saw one of my labia minora was so swollen that it was protruding far past both labia majora and looked as if the whole thing had some sort of inflammatory fluid. I have no been sexually active for months, and this seems to have happened all within a few days. Any idea what it could be or what I should do?
Hi, This sounds like a bartholins abscess or cyst. This is an infection of the bartholins gland that secretes lubricating fluid. If it is looking inflamed and is tender and fluctuates on pressing, more likely that the cyst fluid is infected leading to an abscess. If left alone it bursts and the fluid drains out. But it can recur again. Also you will need antibiotics in case of infection. A procedure called marsupilization helps to prevent its recurrence.
I suggest you see your gynec as it needs further treatment. Meanwhile, the home remedies include hot soothing fomentation and keeping the undergarments clean. Can use drugs like acetaminophen or aspirin to decrease pain if any.
Please do not worry as this is a common condition and easily treatable.
