I've Had A Minor Cold For About A Week And

I've had a minor cold for about a week and starting yesterday, I had a horrible pain in the back of my mouth on the left side. The pain feels as if it's around where my wisdom teeth may be but I don't see any infections or surfacing of the tooth. It hurts to open my mouth, swallow, eat and sometimes talk. Not much will make it go away. What could be causing this and what is it called?
