Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've had sporadic (up to 4 days at a time, once a week to once every 3 months) bouts of nausea, vomiting and loose stools accompanied with foul smelling sulfuric burps and flatulence for nearly 2 years. I have not taken any antibiotics around the time it started or when it flares up. I don't seem to notice a regular pattern with my diet and the flares but have lowered the amount of dairy and gluten I eat. I have a solid stool maybe once a week but always with mucous. Most stools are either watery or stringy and thin. 80% of them float which leads me to believe it is a fat malabsorption problem. It comes suddenly and is urgent. I can't hold it for more than the time it takes me to walk across the house. Every now and then the flares get unbearable with center/left chest pain radiating to my back in the same spot. Some cramping in the abdomen but the pain isn't as bad. The ER has ruled out problems with my gallbladder after an ultrasound and (MRI or CT scan, I don't remember which one and I did not receive the contrast shot.) Im unable to see a regular doctor right now and have to rely on the ER when it's bad just to get fluids and a zofran shot. They have sent me home with pain medication for this problem as well and claim they have no idea what it could be.
