Kid Has Swallowed Sellotape, Difficulty In Emptying Bowels As They Are Hard. Is It Harmful?
2 days ago my children were making jelly beans out of craft paper, which they made into a ball double the size of a jelly bean and held together with sellotape. i believe my 8 month old put 1 into her mouth because she was choking very badly. after a few taps on her back she got her breath bak and cried for a few seconds and started choking again, i was tapping her bak continuisly but she was struggling to breath at which point i started to panic and wantd to phone 999 but didnt want to stop trying. just then i think she must have swallowed it beause she cried. this time she was ok because she was breathing fine now. she hasnt emptied her bowels yet but is pushing to do it and has just a little hard bit. she was already constipated before the incident but i am really worried because there was sellotape on the paper, is that harmful and should i take her to the gp.
Hi, thank you for writing to HCM. I have gone through your query and understood your worries. I would first of all suggest that you monitor your kid closely. Most foreign bodies ingested by children often pass out harmlessly. But, however, she runs the risk of intestinal obstruction whose signs and symptoms include absolute constipation (no stool, no flatus), swollen abdomen, abdominal pain and vomiting. You need to rush her to Emergency room doctor if she presents with these signs and symptoms. I hope I have answered your query I wish her good health
