Hello,
Clicking or popping jaw sounds when opened or closed indicate TMJ syndrome.Pain can occur from various sources so a combination of medications may be needed.Splints are designed to fit over the teeth. They prevent the upper and lower teeth from coming together. These devices take pressure off the jaw joints and muscles so they can relax and heal.If TMJ syndrome is properly treated, the symptoms will definitely be cured.

Hello and Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for writing to us.
You have a temporomandibular joint disorder and although it is common. TMJ also always gets worse over time and never goes away until it is treated and it can be treated conservatively without surgery as long as the jaw is still clicking or popping.
TMJ clicking may have more than one cause ..
1) bad teeth alignment
2) unerupted wisdom tooth/teeth
3) trauma
4) joint infection (arthritis)
5) growth differences between the two sides
Visit the dentist and plan your treatment according to that.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
If you have jaw clicking and popping, it is probably TMJ.
TMJ, also known as Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome or TMD, causes moderate to severe discomfort and pain in a variety of ways.
Jaw clicking and popping is caused by the immense pressure that is put on the teeth and jaw during clenching and grinding. This type of stress and inflammation in the jaw joint is called TMJ (temporomandibular). Try some simple massage and stretching techniques for relief.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.

Dentist Dr. Qazi Ammara's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Clicking sound while opening and closing of mandible occurs due to TMJ syndrome.
TMJ disfunction can also cause pain in the jaw, tenderness in the ears and difficulty in mouth opening.

I would suggest you to visit to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and get the clinical evaluation done, take an OPG radiograph to look for the condition of the joint.

TMJ disfunction can be treated with inflammatory medications, application of moist heat towels in some cases splint therapy can be given.

Hope this helps out.

Regards..
