Lips, Face Swelling In The Morning, Bleeding. Suggestions?
Hello, For the past three weeks I ve been experiencing my lips and face swelling when I wake up in the morning. It started a couple months ago whith an extremly dry mouth. Then I noticed that my glands were swollen underneath my tounge. I tried pressing on my swollen glands but the swelling remained and the gland started to bleed . My lips are swollen, itchy and burning. I have also noticed that my gums are itching and very irritated. Tonight after brushing my teeth I noticed blood on my toothbrush and in the sink. I am taking Benadryl , using a mouthwash ( chlorhexidine 0.12%) and I started taking an antibiotic on this past Sunday Oct. 14. these meds were prescribed by my primary care physician. I have notice a decrease in the amount of swelling. However, my lips and face are still swollen when I wake up in the mornings. The swelling is primarily in my lips. Thank you in advance for your attention and help.
Hi
Thanks for your query
I think, from your history, you are suffering from angioedema and urticaria as your lip swelling does not decrease with antibiotic therapy and itching is associated with it. So in all probability it is an allergic manifestation. I advise you to take anti-histaminics in the form of desloratadine or fexofenadine tablets along with an H2 blocker like ranitidine along with your antibiotic therapy and look for the improvement. I think it will reduce by these medications. Also i should ask you to go for serum c1 estarase estimation and consult an allergist for further management.
Thank you.
