Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
9 month old grandson is small .... only 16 lbs and has been eating solid foods for one month. (all organic, home made following all the recommendations for introducing solids.) Still breast fed. Recently, night times have been marked by waking hourly with inconsolable crying. Has yet to sleep through the night and also has very irregular bowel movements. Friend suggested hypothyroidism could account for constipation and small size? Should it be checked? Parents are highly distressed!
as you told that you had given supplementary food to your child as per guidelines .
baby can be given supplementary food and breast feed upto 2 years of age . your child has little less weight and has excess cry during night this suggest that your child is not getting enough food . second possibility is of abdominal colic in your child . .
as you have introduce the supplementary food bowel may be some what irregular .
but if your child is lethargic or inactive excess sleeping . then you may proceed for hypothyroidism workup
