Lower Back And Underneath Ribs Tender After Slipping And Smacking Head
Around 3 days ago, I forgot my towel after getting out of the shower and I ran out, got one and as I came back into the bathroom, I slipped and landed straight onto my back and smacked my head (and back) onto the tiles. It didn t hurt that much at first, however after a few days my lower back and underneath my ribs are really tender?
Hi, Thank you for using Healthcaremagic.com I'm sorry to hear about your fall and after going through your symptoms there are a couple of possibilities which do come to mind. The first one which i can think of is local muscle damage as a result of the trauma. This can result in pain and tenderness over the region which you have. It can also sometimes cause bruising over the area. If this is the case, application of ice to the area can be helpful in reducing the inflammation. You can also apply topical NSAID ointment which are available OTC. At the same time you can also use motrin or aleve to deal with the pain.
The other possibility which i can think of is that there is bony damage to the area. It's possible that you might have developed a hairline fracture of the spine or even the ribs. This can only be excluded after getting a xray done.
So i would recommend that you do get a clinical examination done if the pain doesn't improve in the next couple of days after taking OTC painkillers or if you develop worsening of the pain. A x-ray of the spine and chest would also be useful in that case.
