My lower right back is in pain. When I lay down and let the muscles relax, I can palpate a very hard ball deep in my low right back. I also have symptoms of sciatica like when i try to hold my right leg out straight it is painful and difficult. I have had this problem for over 5 years and the pain fluctuates between mild and excruciating?

1. Your complaints need to be investigated with MRI Scan of LS Spine, and screening of that lump (ball), also X-ray of that area.
2. The possible causes are disc disease, and or nerve compression at LS Spine.
3. After MRI, you may require tablets, physiotherapy or Surgery.

The symptoms that you have can be caused due to arthritic changes in your lower back . An X ray and MRI are investigations that help more details on the cause . Physical therapy under the guidance of a physiotherapist along with pain medications help get rid of the discomfort .
