Lung Cancer, Balance Issues, Weakness. Done CT Scan, MRI. Done Chemotherapy. What Can Be Done Next?
My wife has small cell lung cancer with brain mets. Her last ct scan was clear and the Radio Onco Doc says her MRI was also good. She has extreme problems with balance, has had some falls and is very weak. She has been finished with chemo and radiation for 6 months. The Doc wants her to see Ears, Nose Specialist. Is it cancer or ear problem.
Hi, the cancer, chemo, and radiation will have so many debilitating conditions but they are not present always. The ear problem could be a metastasis, or by its own, by infection etc. So don't worry from now it self. First of all you consult the E.N.T.surgeon, then he only can tell you what it is. So dont worry every thing will be fine. Thank you.
Small cell lung cancer has a propensity to metastasize quickly.Common sites of spread is to the brain, liver ,bone, bone marrow and central nervous system. Your doctor is checking her ear to see vestibular system in ear, which contributes to balance in most humans and to the sense of spatial orientation, is the sensory system that provides the leading contribution about movement and sense of balance. If her ears are normal in checkup and since she has problem with balance and she has completed chemo and radiation 6 months ago i would suggest your wife undergoes MRI brain immediately as the propensity of small cell lung cancer recurrences in brain is very high.
Take care and Regards.
