MRI Showed Myosotis And Myalgia. Having Lot Of Pain. Should I Delay The Second Appointment With Doctor?

I have just had an MRI today and myosotis and myalgia was listed as the diagnosis on the receipt; I have another appt scheduled with the pain specialist on 12/6. Should I delay going discussing the results. I am in a lot of pain and have been for most of my adulthood and I am really tired of feeling bad. I am just 42 years. Please advise.

Hi there,
Thank you for posting your question. I will do my best to help you

I have tried to understand the problem from he brief description provided from your end.

Denial, anger and frustration are normal feelings when you must deal with an illness.
Things may don't seem normal or fair and likely seem out of your control
Firstly Read about your illness and always keep update on it

PolyMyositis is persistent inflammatory muscle disease that causes weakness of the skeletal muscles, which control movement of our body.

This can can occur at any age, but it mostly affects adults in their 30s, 40s or 50s.
Exact cause of polymyositis is unknown .
However, treatment can improve your muscle strength and function.

Treatments :
Medication :Corticosteroids --on advise of a physician which need to be monitored
If not reponding ,then to other modes of medical intervention like
-corticosteroid-sparing medication
-Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG)
-Immunosuppressants
-Physiotherapy
-Speech therapy (If any difficulty in swallowing or if swallowing muscles are weakend)
Possible complications of myositis include:
Difficulty swallowing-If the muscles in esophagus are affected-can leadto difficulty in swallowing

Breathing problems, shortness of breath - If chest muscles are affected breathing problems, such as shortness of breath

In long term , calcium deposits in your muscles, skin and connective tissues (calcinosis).
Although there's no cure for polymyositis, treatment can improve your muscle strength and function
- I suggest to be strong and live with a challenge .
-Take medications as advised by your Physician with supportive care (Physiotherapy)
-Talk to other people who have a similar condition
-Don't be afraid to ask your doctor any questions concerning your illness, diagnosis or treatment plan
-Keep your doctor updated on any new signs or symptoms you may experience
-Learn to say no effectively and ask for help when you need it
-Rest when you're tired. Don't wait until you're exhausted
-Try to maintain your daily routine as best you can and don't neglect doing those things you enjoy

I hope that I have answered your questions fully and been of some help. If you have anymore questions please contact me again anytime

Dr.Sushma
