In MRI, Lumbar lordosis is straightened Generalised spondylotic changes are seenin the form of osteophytes facetopathy schmorls nodes ligamentum flavum hypertrophy and disc desiccation at multiple levels seen in the form of loss of hyperintense signal on T2W images. Diffuse disc bulges are seen at L2/3 and L3/4 level indenting the thecal sac and bilateral descending L4 nerves. Posterior disc bulge is seen and L4/5 level indenting the thecal sac and bilateral descending L5 nerves. Mild disc bulge is seen at L5/S1 level indenting the thecal sac and compressing bilateral descending S1 nerves. Bony canal is capacious at all levels with no obvious primary canal stenosis. Female 44 years. Kinly advise diagnosis and how to get relief.
Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. You have given a detailed description about the MRI findings but not mentioned anything about the symptoms you have. Anyway, all the MRI findings suggest that you have lumbar degenerative disc disease with compression of nerve roots. I assume that you have back pain along with radicular pain ( pain radiating from back into the foot ) in legs. The primary management will be always conservative as follows:
- Bed rest with analgesics & ocassional muscle relaxants
- avoiding excessive bending movements & lifting heavy weights
- intermittent pelvic traction
- using lumbar back support while sitting for prolonged time
If all the above measures fail to provide symptom relief, you may need an orthosurgeons consultation to decide upon whether surgical intervention is necessary. Hope this helps
