Mass On Uterus. Pap Smear Results Show Normal Results. Should I Take An Ultrasound?

I went to an obgyn last Wednesday for yearly checkup. The doctor said he felt a mass on my uterus and asked me if I have had fibroids before. I told him that as far as I knew I have never had them. He scheduled an ultrasound for me two days later but I had to cancel it because my son came down with a bad case of strep throat. The doctors office called me yesterday about my pap smear results and said it was normal but it did show endometrial cells. I was wondering if I should reschedule my ultrasound?

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

I have gone through your query, and in my opinion an ultrasound would be necessary. You have not mentioned your age, but it is quite common for women in the reproductive age group to have problems like fibroids, endometriosis, etc; as these are all hormone-dependent conditions. And your hormones are at their peak during the reproductive age group.

Whether the cause is a fibroid uterus or some other underlying condition causing endometrial thickness, an ultrasound would be mandatory and very helpful to diagnose the condition by visualization. Please do not hesitate. An early diagnosis, makes treatment of any and every condition much simpler. Please go ahead.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.

Hi,
Ultrasound is an important first step exam in your case. Given that it is non-invasive and able to give lot of information about the uterus, it is very advisable to do it soonest. It will guide the doctor decide on endometrial biopsy or not. If it is fibriod, then it is relative an easy situation to deal with, and in case of something other than that, early diagnosis determines the outcome. So reschedule your ultrasound.

Hope this will be helpful
