Medicine For High Blood Pressure And Swollen Ankle
Hi can you help?. I have been taking blood pressure tablets for twenty years now and a had to vistit my doctor about even weeks ago with swollen ankles he took me of a dug call aderlat and increased the other tablet called canderstartin, after two weeks or so my blood pressure was still around 168 over 98 to 107 i have been back since and he has put me on another water tablet that was two weeks ago and my blood pressure is still the same is it to early to go back to him or should I leave it longer.Regards Tony
Thanks for contacting HCM. Dear patient the tablet you were taking Adalat has side effect of causing swelling in ankles and legs so could have been responsible for that, thats why probably your doctor changed it to candesartan. Subsequently he added a diuretic and still you have not been benefited. I would suggest that you should be evaluated for cardiac and renal functions as long standing hypertension can cause complications like left heart failure and kidney damage which can also cause swelling in dependent parts of body(usually ankles and feet). in both such situations the usual drugs to control Blood pressure are not very effective and some special drugs are required. As you have waited for 2 weeks and not much benefited please go to your doctor and ask him to get you evaluated for cardiac and renal functions. regards
