Menopausal, High BP, Mood Swings, Mild Depression. On Wellbutrin. Why Is It Difficult To Lose Weight?
Hi there. I am 53 years old and am just starting menopause. I have high blood pressure and am taking medication for that. For the past few months it has been fluctuating between normal and very high. Lately, I ve been feeling very weepy - I can cry at the drop of a hat and I m not even kidding. I spent the day crying at my desk at work just the other day....for no reason. For the past few months my memory is very bad. When people talk to me I find it hard to concentrate on what they re saying and I only hear half of what they re saying. I was diagnosed with mild depression about 15 years ago and have been taking Wellbutrin (300mg/daily) since that time. I ve taken myself off of the drug 3 times in that time for about a year at a time. I m having extreme difficulty losing weight...it s all in my belly. I m having trouble sleeping - I fall asleep fine, it s staying asleep that is the problem. I feel like I m going crazy.
All your symptoms are associated with menopause. Women undergo many changes during menopause, which is why most of them are advised to visit a doctor to cope with all the changea and to make things more comfortable for them.
Pre-existing depression also can get worse during menopause due to a drop in hormone levels which used to help control and maintain good mood and happiness. I would advise you to revisit your psychiatrist and also consult a gynecologist for correction of your hormone levels which will be the ultimate help.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
