Moderate Anisopoikilocytosis, Microcycotic Hypochromic Cells. What Is It And Suggest Treatment?
My son is 12 years old, his height is 155 CM and weight is 43 kgs.......in most recent blood test conducted in India report says moderate anisopoikilocytosis. Predominantly microcytic hypochromic cells with ovalocytes , elliptocytes & some target cells seen ....with a HB of 9.6 g/dL...................can you tell what exactly is the problem ? and remedy? I am from India ...thx in advance
Anisopoikilocytosis means that the red blood cells are of different sizes and shapes. The microcytic hypochromic anaemia suggests that it is due mainly to iron deficiency. It is better to get him further investigated:
1. Serum iron levels
2. Serum ferritin level.
3. Stool for occult blood.
I hope I have responded to your query to your satisfaction.
