Morning And Evening Headaches,nausea And Drowsiness. Should I Be Concerned?

I have had quite bad headaches morning and evening for about 3 weeks. They have occasionally woken me from sleep. I am often nauseas & drowsy. I have taken paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly for a few days, which didn t help. I then tried cocodamol and diclofenac , which gave me little relief. I am usually well hydrated, my caffeine intake is low (3 cups of tea a week) and have had my eyes tested recently and my glasses are satisfactory.

Let me tell you that the causes of headache are many and it could be due to migraine, tension headache, bleed in the brain, brain tumor/infection etc. Further, the presence of associated complaints like vomiting, loss of consciousness, weakness of one side of the body etc helps us narrow down the possibilities.

The most likely possibility in your case could be migraine headache. How ever, this is a diagnosis of exclusion. I mean other secondary causes of headache should be excluded before this diagnosis is made.

I will advise you to get evaluated by a local neurologist and get a brain scan done. If this comes normal, the possibility of migraine will be high. You will benefit with medications like valproate, topiramate, amitriptiline etc along with avoidance of stress, rest, relaxation and regular food and sleep hygiene
